Sometimes the best way to hear from God is to simply let the scripture speak.  Here is what Jesus says in the gospel of John about being sent.

God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony.  John 1:7

There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee.  After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”  John 3:1-2

“God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.”

John 3:17

“For He is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives Him the Spirit without limit. The Father loves His Son and has put everything into His hands.”  John 3:33-34

Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing His work.  John 4:34

“I sent you to harvest”  John 4:38

“Anyone who does not honor the Son is certainly not honoring the Father who sent him.”

John 5:23

“I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life.”  John 5:24

“I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.”  John 5:30

“The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that He sent me.”  John 5:36

“And the Father who sent me has testified about me Himself. You have never heard His voice or seen Him face to face, and you do not have His message in your hearts, because you do not believe me – the one He sent to you.”  John 5:37-38

Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one He has sent.”  John 6:29

“For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.”  John 6:38

“I live because of the living Father who sent me.”  John 6:57

“My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me.”  John 7:16

“Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies.”  John 7:18

“The Father who sent me is with me.”  John 8:16

“And the one who sent me is with me – he has not deserted me. For I always do what pleases him.”  John 8:29

Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me.”  John 8:42

“We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work.”  John 9:4

“The Father set me apart and sent me into the world.”  John 10:36

“For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me.”  John 12:45

“I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.”  John 12:49

“I tell you the truth, anyone who welcomes my messenger is welcoming me, and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming the Father who sent me.”  John 13:20

“My words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.”  John 14:24

“And this is the way to have eternal life – to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.”  John 17:3

“Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world.”  John 17:18

“I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one – as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.”  John 17:21

“I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.”  John 17:23
